After Salat al eid, the slaughter of the animals starts. If you are sensitive to blood and guts you should go straight home after the eid salat!
People with money get their animals slaughtered by an official butcher and then pick up the meat after prayer. People with less money do the slaughter themselves. Not only them but also many people enjoy the act of worship that is sacrificing an animal for eid al-Adha.
As you walk along the streets in my neighbourhood on eid day you will see rivers of blood and piles of guts and skins. As the day progresses and gets hotter, the rot starts and the smell is nauseating. There are men on the main intersections with large knives waiting for someone to request them to slaughter their animal, right there on the side of the road. Then the flies swarm over the scraps and cars run over piles of guts as they try to park, carrying their families to the traditional family visits.
As I rounded a corner to head home, a bull was tied down to be slaughtered. Its eyes were wide and terrified as men surrounded it cheering and as the knife sliced through its neck it silently watched the crimson fountain flowing and slowly his body went limp.
The meat from an animal that was relaxed when slaughtered is more tender than from one that was frightened.
My friend was turned off meat for the entire eid celebrations and refused to eat. As for me, I say, "just eat the meat! " Alhamdulillah.
The second day of eid there is still slaughter going on but not like the first day. On the second day you find random body parts on the streets full of flies and some champions have thrown rotting stinking animal pelts over the powerlines. The sanitation service is very bad in Sana'a, the city drowning in garbage, so the flies will stay for a while!
