Whether you are a muhajir or not you will be tested and the higher your eman and taqwa, the tougher the tests. Once you make the firm decision and act on making hijrah for the sake of Allah you will suddenly find yourself with the strangest problems. It is a sign that you have taken that extra step towards Allah the Most Merciful testing you at a higher level. Allah says in His Book: "And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin" (the patient ones, etc.). (Surat al-Baqarah 155) Let's focus on fear first. Fear is a normal reaction to dangerous situations. If we didn't fear anything we would do whatever we wanted. What we need to do is focus this fear not on what might happen to us in duniya, but to fear Allah and His punishment if we stray from the Straight Path. Fear of danger or punishment is only one part of fear. The rest of the fear for a muhajir is fearing what comes in the rest of the Ayah - hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits. Hijrah can be expensive, and sometimes we fear losing wealth especially when in a different country where there is no social services or even Islamic community to help you out. Losing wealth often means going 'home' in an embarrassed state. When making decisions while in hijrah, and I am not talking about an all-expenses jaunt in the wealthy Gulf states, we may find we need to take bigger risks, and that can envoke fear in us. We can overcome this anxiety by carefully thinking through the plan, discuss with other believers or muhajireen if there are any, make a decision, pray istikhara and the rest is tawakul billah - trust and reliance in Allah. When you have this process and have yakeen in it (sure and confident) then no matter what happens, even if you do lose weath and fruits, you will not greive because you did all you could and in the end Allah swt decided to TEST you. Things are much tougher for muhajireen with children because it is normal to fear for their safety, health, education, futures, but the process is the same, and in the end it is up to Allah, so fear not! And Allah the Most Merciful after telling us we will be tested with fear, he continues; Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.'' They are those on whom are the Salawat (i.e., who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones.) A nice remembrance for those feeling the going tough these days on the paths of Hijrah fi Sabilillah.
